3-year-old woman injured in Wednesday taking pictures, Three different youngsters in protecting custody

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita Police responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of East MacArthur at around 7 p.m. Wednesday

Upon arrival at the RV park, the officers found a 30-year-old man and a 3-year-old girl with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital.

Wichita Police Department captain Jason Stephens said the girl sustained a hand injury and the man a leg injury. Three other children in the home were taken into DCF protective custody during the investigation.

“We’re still investigating how the weapon was stored. The father was sleeping on the bed and woke up when he was shot, ”said Captain Stephens.

The police are investigating how the three-year-old girl got the gun. They had no update on whether she was staying in the hospital.

Officials emphasized the importance of gun safety and the importance of keeping them out of the reach of children.
