4 youngsters positioned in protecting custody after great amount of meth present in Grand Island residence

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Four children are in protective custody after a large amount of meth and other drug material was found in sight in a house on Grand Island.

According to Grand Island Police, officers were called to the Head Start facility on Piper Street on Wednesday because a 5-year-old boy was not picked up from school.

Police said during the investigation that officials had been made aware of concerns for the boy and that living conditions in his home were not safe.

During a review of this child’s living conditions, officials found that the child was living in unhealthy conditions with his three siblings.

While walking through the residence with the child’s mother, Adriana Veliz, police said that several items containing dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia were found. The police found a total of 49.5 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales and packaging material in the house.

Veliz and her friend Eduardo Aldaba-Montanez were arrested and charged with four child abuse charges because the drugs in them were not only within the children’s reach, but were also easily accessible when they were contacted or ingested.

Police also said all four children were in a situation that threatened their physical and mental health.

The children are in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Adriana Veliz was arrested (deliberately) on four counts of child abuse: possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana over 1 ounce, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Eduardo Aldaba-Montanez was (deliberately) arrested for child abuse. 4 charges of distributing possession, possession of marijuana greater than 1 ounce, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
