5 members of the family arrested after custody dispute, SWAT state of affairs in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY – Five people were arrested Saturday night after a custody battle turned into a SWAT situation.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers were called to a house near 700 N. Star Crest Drive, approximately 1850 West, because of a domestic dispute over a custody case.

When the police arrived, they learned that the child’s father was breaking a protection order and tried to arrest him.

Family members then obstructed the arrest, police say.

A backup was requested at around 9 p.m. – including a SWAT team – and the family eventually came after SWAT arrived.

A total of five people were arrested. Their names and charges they face have not yet been released on Sunday afternoon.

700 North was temporarily closed between Redwood Road and I-215 due to the heavy police presence.
