Two women who helped him abort the fetus were also arrested.
The three were brought before the court, which immediately transferred them to pre-trial detention.
The 15-year-old granddaughter and her younger brother lived with the grandfather, who, according to Thirukoilur police, sexually abused the girl exclusively for women over the past three years.
Local residents who learned of the problem alerted the Thirukoilur village official, who informed the women-only police who took him into custody along with his two accomplices, a retired nurse and another woman.
The police charged him under Section 6 (punishment for severe penetrative sexual assault), 5 (severe penetrative sexual assault), 5 (j) (whoever is committing a penetrative sexual assault on a child), 5 (j) (ii) ( makes a child pregnant.) as a result of sexual assault) and 17 (punishment for aiding and abetting) of the Law on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso), 2012.
