Individuals who have received at least one coronavirus vaccine injected in California could win up to $ 1.5 million in the “Vax for the Win” incentive program.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced that individuals who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination will be eligible to receive up to $ 1.5 million in free cash in California’s COVID-19 vaccine lottery called Vax for the Win.
Here’s a breakdown of who is eligible for the prize pool and how they can get their free cash:
What are the prices?
On Friday June 4th, the California Lottery will hold a random drawing of 15 people, each winning $ 50,000. The next 15 people for the $ 50,000 prize will be selected on Friday, June 11th.
Then on Tuesday, June 15, when the state reopens, 10 people will be selected to receive $ 1.5 million.
An Eligible Person can only win one of the prizes in the Vax for the Win program.
The state has also rewarded the first two million people vaccinated since Thursday, May 27, with $ 50 grocery cards. People can choose between a $ 50 virtual card, a $ 50 grocery gift card from Kroger stores, including Ralphs, Food 4 Less, or Foods Co., or a $ 50 grocery gift card from Albertsons, including Safeway , Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions and Andronico’s community markets.
Who is Eligible?
Anyone 12 years of age or older who is a permanent California resident and has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine listed in the California database.
Immigration status is not a barrier to the drawings. And no money or purchase is required to enter.
Individuals incarcerated, residing outside of California, or working in any of the participating agencies are not eligible for the drawings. Those ineligible for the competition also include the spouses and dependent children of employees and employees of the California Department of Public Health, California State Lottery, California Health and Human Services Agency, Government Operations Agency, and the Office of the governor.
How do the winners know if they won $ 50,000 or $ 1.5 million?
Although only one dose is required to be eligible, the state will not pay winners of the $ 50,000 or $ 1.5 million until they have received all of the vaccine doses that are deemed fully vaccinated.
The California Department of Health has randomly assigned numbers to people in the state vaccination database. The California Lottery will then randomly select the winning numbers and the California Department of Health will call the appropriate individuals who are entitled to tell them they have won.
The state calls the phone number that the winner provided when they were vaccinated. The state will attempt to contact the winner between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. by phone, text message, or email. The state could stop contacting the winner 96 hours after the first phone call.
The names of the winners will not be revealed until the person is contacted and agrees to win the prize and the winner wishes to announce that they have won the money.
If they don’t reach the winner or someone decides they don’t want the money, the state will redraw to give away the money.
The award money is paid out by the state computing office and depends on the completion of all formalities. Money from these prizes may also be subject to taxes or other debts, such as child support and reimbursement payments.
How do people get the ration cards?
If you get vaccinated on or after May 27th and are among the first two million to qualify, you will receive a redemption code via text message or email 7-10 days after your last vaccination. California officials said if you don’t have a cell phone or email address, call 1-833-993-3873 7-10 days after your last vaccination for a physical card. And if you don’t have a permanent address, the state will help you coordinate delivery.
It can take up to five days to receive the card of your choice when you redeem the code provided.
Exceptions for winners under 18
If a winner is under 18, the California Department of Health said their prize money will be deposited into a savings fund until the person is 18, at which point the winner will receive the prize money.
If a person under the age of 18 wants to collect their grocery voucher, they may need to be selected by a parent.
How do I get vaccinated?
To get vaccinated and enter the Vax for the winning contest, visit the MyTurn website or call the CA COVID-19 hotline at 1-833-422-4255 to find a vaccination center near you. Many allow you to come in without an appointment.
People can get vaccinated anywhere in California that is registered on the State Vaccination Registry (CAIR), including at home vaccination services, to be eligible for the free cash.
