Alexandra pupil who allegedly stabbed one other to demise in custody at Youngster Centre

Johannesburg – The 16-year-old murder accused allegedly hitting another 8th grade student.

Qhayiya Ngaye, an 8th grade student, was stabbed to death by a classmate earlier this week when the Pholosho Secondary School Disciplinary Committee met to address another separate incident of violence at the school.

Phindi Mjonondwane, a spokeswoman for the NPA in Gauteng, said the student had been charged with murder and a preliminary investigation had been opened.

“The state claims that the classmate’s death was due to a lunchtime argument between the defendant and some students on the school grounds, during which the defendant retrieved a sharp object and stabbed the classmate.

“The learner was in pre-trial detention in a child and youth center until September 8, 2021, when the matter will be tried in the Children’s Court,” said Mjonondwane.

A spokesman for the victim’s family told Power FM that they wanted to meet with the family of the accused murder, and they also believed the teachers could have done more to prevent the incident.

He said the family wanted answers from the school, and they also said violence would not solve an attempt.

The deceased student will be buried in the Eastern Cape next week.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Panyaza Lesufi, MEC of Gauteng Education, condemned the fatal stabbing of an 8th grade student and offered condolences to the family of the deceased 8th grade student.

“We strongly condemn the violent behavior that allegedly resulted in the death of a student by their peers on school premises. It is absolutely unacceptable. The SGB must investigate this incident and take necessary disciplinary measures against the perpetrator, ”said Lesufi.

He met with the deceased’s school and family.
