Atmore Police: Kidnapped kids again in mom’s custody, husband faces expenses for interfering with youngster custody

At around 9:38 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021, the Atmore Police Department received a 911 call in response to a male suspect who had kidnapped two children of a woman who was at a gas station on Jack Springs Road and the I-65 is located.

Atmore police arrived on site and met with the caller, who identified himself as the mother of the children. The woman told the kidnapper that she was her husband. The woman said the couple are currently separated. The woman said she left Texas with the children today to move to Alabama. The woman stated that the children were sixteen (16) and three (3) years old.

The woman said she went to the gas station to refuel the truck and the kids went to the store. She said minutes later the children would leave the shop and get into the man’s vehicle. The woman said the husband drove a gray Toyota Camry in 2003. The woman said the younger child was the man’s birth child, but the other was not. The woman told APD officials that the man had no parental rights over the other child. The woman also said she did not feel that the children were in danger but wanted the children to be back in her care.

The husband has been identified as Bruice Jyrome Jonson (correct spelling), 58 years old, of San Antonio, Texas. Jonson was later imprisoned in Gulfport, MS, where he is on trial in Alabama of custody disorders. The children were found to be safe and unharmed.

ATMORE, Ala. (WKRG) – Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks confirms that two children were abducted from a gas station parking lot around 9 a.m. Thursday morning. Police believe the mother of the two children was followed to the area by a Texas man.

One of the kidnapped children is his birth child. Chief Brooks believes this was due to a custody issue and confirms that this was not a random incident. A vehicle description was not published. The officers are still there and are investigating.
