Automotive stolen in Hamden with toddler inside, suspect in custody

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A suspect is in custody Monday night after stealing a car with a baby in Hamden.

Police said they responded on Dixwell Avenue and Woodin Street at 4:13 p.m. to report a stolen vehicle carrying a 6 month old child.

The driver of the car had entered a local store and left the keys to the car in the ignition.

One person then jumped in the car and fled south on Dixwell Ave.

Local and state authorities were notified and immediate assistance was provided in the search.

Central Communications was broadcasting an AMBER alert when a Yale University police officer found the stolen car near 1 Whalley Ave.

The child was found unharmed. The suspect is in custody.
