HEBER CITY, Utah, July 10, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) – Wasatch County police officers are investigating the shooting of a 7-year-old girl Friday night.

According to a statement from the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services “received a call at around 10:35 pm from a man who said he was on his way to Hebert Valley Hospital.”

Because of a language barrier, the call for translation had to be routed through a “voice line,” the statement said.

“At around 10:50 pm, Hebert Valley Hospital called 911 Center and said there was a 7-year-old girl in the emergency room with a gunshot wound.”

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s deputies were posted to both the hospital and the child’s home in the Wasatch Commons Apartments, the statement said.

“Shortly after the MPs arrived at the residence, they heard a gunshot from inside or near a neighboring apartment. The MPs approached and took three drunk people into custody, ”said the sheriff’s office.

It is unclear how the three might be related to the shootings.

“Despite the best efforts of the hospital staff, the 7-year-old child died around 11:30 p.m.,” said the sheriff’s statement.

The case is being investigated by the Wasatch Back Major Crimes Task Force.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office tipline at 435-654-WCSO.

“The sheriff’s office has searched the area and currently considers it safe for residents,” the statement said.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
