Bloomfield girl in custody after deadly capturing

Police say a domestic dispute killed a man in Bloomfield.

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – A Bloomfield man is dead after a domestic argument led to a shootout on Friday night. Police arrested the woman, who is currently in the hospital, and investigated the incident on Saturday.

“It started as an argument and escalated to a physical confrontation and culminated in a shot,” said Captain Stephen Hajdasz of the Bloomfield Police Department.

The police did not disclose the name of the man who was killed. Police were called to a house at 22 Filley Street at around 10:40 p.m. Friday evening. The officers were met by 37-year-old Marvyann Duncan, who told them she had just shot her gun. Police said they entered the house to find a 39-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Duncan has been named as a suspect and is currently in police custody.

“We arrested you at the scene,” said Captain Hajdasz. “Right now, our detective department is working with the prosecutor on formal charges.”

The captain said the two were in a relationship. The police confirmed that there was a child in the household with a relative.

It’s a quiet area in a wooded area so the neighbors were surprised to learn what happened.

In 2020, FOX61 reported that Marvyann Duncan and her son were molested by another buyer in a Bloomfield store, filed a complaint with the police and appeared at a related press conference.

“The complainant in the case of the racist statements is the suspect in this case,” said Captain Hajdasz.

Hajdasz said he wasn’t sure if it was a self defense.

“I have no information to determine this or to make a definitive statement,” said Captain Hajdasz. He said the investigation into what led to the shootings is still very active.

Police said Duncan asked to be taken to the hospital and has not been charged. Captain Hajdasz said they are in contact with the court system to see if they will hold a bedside trial.

Police said the suspect would be charged with murder and subsequent charges. However, detectives are working with prosecutors to formulate the exact charges about the incident.
