Boy amongst three shot in south St. Louis County, suspect in custody | Legislation and order

ST. LOUIS – A man was arrested early Monday after police said he shot three people, including a child, in southern St. Louis County.

The police responded shortly before 1.30 a.m. on Avenues Gentry and Goetz in the unincorporated southern district to receive a report on fireworks. There they found three people – two women and a boy – injured by gunfire.

All three were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Police estimated the boy is around 10 years old and the other two victims are between 30 and 40 years old.

The police suspected that the shooter had barricaded himself in a house on Goetz Avenue and called the department’s tactical unit. The suspect, who has not yet been identified by the police, was arrested without further incident, according to police.

The boy is being shot after a number of children have recently been shot in the city. Five children were shot dead in just over 24 hours on Friday morning in St. Louis.

As of Friday that year, at least 50 children had been shot injured or killed in the St. Louis area.
