C19 Individuals’s Coalition welcomes return of COVID social aid of misery grant

JOHANNESBURG – President Ramaphosa has announced a series of interventions to help those hardest hit by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent violent protests that have destroyed hundreds of businesses and livelihoods.

This also includes the reinstatement of social assistance in emergencies. The scholarship will provide a monthly payment of R 350 to all individuals who have no other sources of income until March next year.

Spokesman Tauriq Jenkins said it would help millions of families bring food to the table after a year of massive job losses.

“We are pleased that the President has responded to calls from civil society to reintroduce a social assistance subsidy from March 2022. I think it is very important to focus on the basic income and increase these existing grants, which will help alleviate some of the immediate and urgent needs of the most vulnerable communities, “he said.
