MPs were able to contact Payne, who surrendered without incident at 7:34 a.m. on Thursday. Payne, the 18-month-old child, and Payne’s girlfriend suffered no significant injuries.

Payne has a $ 10 million secured bond. His first appearance was scheduled for Thursday in the Caldwell County District Court.

According to the press release, he was also served a pending arrest warrant for failing to appear in an independent case of assault on a woman, threats and second degree trespassing. According to the announcement, a secured bond of US $ 1,000 has been set for this case.

Barlowe said the previous attack on a female charge did not involve Payne’s current girlfriend.

Donald and Sandra Oakes live next door. Sandra Oakes said she walked out of her house around 2 a.m. and heard police officers tell Payne to come outside.

Sandra Oakes said she had often heard Payne arguing with his girlfriend. “I never wanted anything to do with them,” she said.

When Sandra Oakes heard of the deputy shooting, she said, “These guys risked their lives for us, and to commit such a thing is horrible,” she said. “That should not happen.”
