Capturing Suspects in Custody – santamonica.gov

At around 9:45 p.m. on August 13, 2021, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) answered a call to Eddie’s Liquor, 2045 20th Street, to investigate a shooting.

SMPD officials discovered that a male suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Jesus Manuel Macias, was standing in the parking lot in a verbal argument with the victim. As the dispute escalated, a woman with Macias, 26-year-old Lucero Campos, got a pistol from her car and gave it to Macias. Macias fired multiple shots at the victim, missing both times, and both Macias and Lucero fled the scene.

The officers were given a description of the suspect and the vehicle and finally found the suspect vehicle on the eastbound highway I-10. The vehicle was stopped in the area of ​​Sawtelle Blvd. and Matteson Ave. An adult female passenger and three minors were also in the vehicle. Witnesses identified Macias and Campos as the people who were involved in the shooting. A loaded 9mm pistol was recovered from the vehicle. The two suspects from El Monte have been booked for:

Macias – 245 (a) (2) PC – attack with a deadly weapon (firearm); 25850 (c) (1) PC with gun loaded in public (criminal); 29800 (a) (1) PC – Convicted felon in possession of a firearm; and 273A (a) PC – Child Exposure.

Campos – 273A (a) PC – Endangerment of Children; 25850 (a) PC – Carrying a loaded firearm; and 31 PC – Aiding and Abetting
