Cloquet man in custody after alleged sexual assault

Timothy Scott Young Jr., 38, was charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under the age of 16 in a complaint filed with the 6th District Court in November. Carlton County’s attorney Lauri Ketola said he was recently arrested in Washington state and taken to Carlton County Jail on Tuesday, January 12.

According to the complaint, Young knew the victim, who was 14 years old at the time. The alleged attack took place in April, the complaint said, and the girl told police that Young threatened to harm her if she told anyone.

The girl reported the attack to her guardian. Instead of reporting it to the police, he told her if she wanted the attack to be reported she had to do it herself.

The attack was reported in August and during an interview, the girl’s guardian confirmed that she and Young knew each other and that he watched her alone several times. He also confirmed that the girl reported the attack to him, but he did not notify law enforcement officers and told her to report it herself, the complaint said.

In an interview with police, Young admitted spending time alone with the girl, but denied sexually assaulting her.

In 2007, Young was convicted of sexually assaulting a second degree child in Douglas County, Wisconsin. As a result of the conviction, he had to register as a predatory perpetrator.

The October 29 complaint stated that Young was inconsistent with the predator’s registration.

Young is being held in Carlton County Jail on bail of $ 30,000 and faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, a fine of $ 40,000, or both. He is due to appear in court on Wednesday January 20th.
