Convicted intercourse offender again in custody on Dartmouth costs after surety backs out | Provincial | Information

A Dartmouth registered sex offender accused of molesting two children is back behind bars after a Wolfville man who bailed him on March 17 resigned on Monday.

Brandon William McNeil, 27, had lived with the surety and a woman in their apartment on Gaspereau Avenue in Wolfville on a lawyer-negotiated layoff plan.

McNeil was arrested three weeks ago and charged with two cases of sexual exploitation, sexual interference and sexual assault.

Police claim he committed the crimes against two boys between February 11 and 27.

McNeil was taken into custody by Sheriff’s MPs Monday after appearing on bail in Dartmouth Provincial Court.

The indictment is due in court on April 21. Defense attorney on duty, Lonny Queripel, said he would advise the court and the crown if McNeil submits a new bail plan by then.

Judge Pam Williams ordered McNeil not to have any contact with the alleged victims, whose identities are protected by a disclosure ban.

McNeil is the son of former Deputy Chief of Halifax Regional Police, Chris McNeil, and the nephew of former Prime Minister Stephen McNeil.

In January 2015, he was sentenced to four months in prison followed by 18 months probation after pleading guilty to luring a 13-year-old boy online.

He was arrested in March 2014 after a Dartmouth woman learned he had had sexually explicit conversations with her son on Facebook for the past two months.

An evaluation by a clinical psychologist found that McNeil posed a moderate risk for further sex crimes.

When convicted, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and submit a sample of his DNA to a national database.

The charges of providing child pornography and sexually explicit material to a child were withdrawn after the child was convicted of seduction charges.
