Doable baby custody dispute results in gun violence in west Visalia

Officials flooded an affluent housing estate in western Visalia after a man was shot multiple times in a house.

At around 4 p.m., neighbors in the Chardonnay Estates neighborhood called 911 with reports of gunfire and a man heard cries for help. The house is near Oak Grove Elementary School, off Akers Street and Ferguson Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying in his front yard suffering “multiple gunshot wounds,” said Lt. Dan Ford. The victim was “alive and vigilant” and was taken to Kaweah Health for treatment.

Two children were in the house at the time of the shooting but were safe and unharmed, Ford said.

Officials believe the shooting was the result of an argument between the man and his wife, possibly over a child, according to witness statements, Ford said. The wife was arrested.

The officers are working to summarize the events leading up to the shooting and determine whether the shooting was “self-defense or more,” he added.

The names of the people involved have not been published.

Just hours earlier, detective inspectors had an argument with a man who is accused of molesting his wife. The confrontation ended when the man shot himself, the police said.
