Father in custody after confessing to sexual abuse of kid

A Live Oak man is on remand after admitting charges of sexually abusing a child.

Myron Mathews, Live Oak, is charged with continued sexual abuse of a child and extremely serious sexual assault on a child, both of which are first degree crimes.

In early August, Live Oak police were made aware of the investigation by the victim’s mother, who told police she believed the father had sexually abused her child, whose age was not disclosed.

When the department’s criminal investigation department began its work, investigators found video evidence of the abuse taped on a video camera in the house.

Live Oak Police Lt. Matt Malone said the suspect voluntarily confessed to “inappropriate sexual contact by his daughter” when he was contacted by police.

According to a police report dated August 11, Mathews made statements that he had done so several times for his sexual satisfaction at the Live Oak residence and in Washington state, where they lived before they moved to Live Oak.

The police used the video evidence and the confession to request his arrest on the two counts.
