Former workplace supervisor sentenced to three years | Information

ASHLAND A former Boyd County Child Support Enforcement Office bureau chief convicted of misappropriating more than $ 126,000 from the office will spend three years in federal prison, authorities say.

A spokesman for the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky confirmed on Wednesday that Mary E. Pickett had been sentenced to 36 months in prison.

Pickett pleaded guilty to a number of postal frauds and a number of exacerbated identity thefts in September 2020.

According to her consent form, as the office manager, she submitted false payroll documents showing that an employee worked 40 hours a week when they only worked 14 hours. During this time, Pickett wrote checks to himself without permission.

Originally charged with theft of $ 113,000 from office in a state court, Pickett saw her case thrown into the federal system in 2020 as the office receives federal funding.

Pickett could have faced up to 20 years in prison for the conviction.

Pickett has until February 22nd to report to the United States Bureau of Prisons by order of a judge. US District Judge David L. Bunning recommended that her be held at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington.
