Good Samaritan saves 11-year-old, suspect in custody

New York City police have arrested a suspect who allegedly made sexual threats against an 11-year-old girl while he was robbing her – until a Good Samaritan stepped in to rescue her, reports say.

Jonathan Perez, 34, was taken into custody Thursday following the alleged attack in the borough of Queens on Sunday morning, according to the New York Post.

“My reaction was to help the girl, I have nothing else to say,” Mariam, who WABC identified as a good Samaritan, told the broadcaster. “To help her, I helped her, the girl threw herself on me to help her, that’s all I did, I couldn’t catch him.”

Perez allegedly dragged the child into an alley, tossed them on the floor, and then held a sharp object to her neck while sexually threatening them and asking to find out their age, police told the New York Post.

He is said to have stolen the child’s house keys and $ 20 in cash before he fled.

The girl suffered a cut in the throat during the episode, the New York Post reports.

Perez is now charged with robbery, assault, kidnapping, threatening and harmful behavior for a child under the age of 17.

Sources told the New York Post that Perez was last arrested on June 2 after allegedly beating his girlfriend and then taking her car keys.
