Hit and run kills lady, injures baby in Salt Lake Metropolis; suspect in custody

SALT LAKE CITY — An investigation continues after Salt Lake City Police said a woman was killed and a child was injured in a hit and run accident.

Police said that, based on an initial investigation, the suspect’s vehicle was traveling east on 1700 South when it left the roadway and hit a woman and child on a sidewalk near 900 East.

Emergency officials performed life-saving measures on the woman who died in transit on the way to a hospital.

Police say that the injured child was hospitalized in critical condition.

A search quickly began for the driver of the vehicle. Salt Lake Police said the driver was located, and that he was safely taken into custody.

The area of ​​the accident, 1700 South between 900 East and 1000 East, was expected to remain closed for several hours on Tuesday afternoon.
