Houston Reed launches boutique agency for household legislation in Canton

A new, boutique practice focused on family law has launched in downtown Canton.

Houston Reed was recently formed by the twosome of Denise Houston and Nikki Reed, who are joining forces to hang this new shine.

Prior to launching their own business, Houston worked for Canton Plakas Mannos, where she spent nearly 27 years of her career.

Reed, meanwhile, was running a private practice through Reed Law offices, which she launched in 2010. Before that, she was a staff attorney in the child support division for the Stark County Department of Job and Family Services.

The niche firm focuses on family law and domestic relations cases, including work in areas such as divorce, custody, child support, visitation and guardian ad litem work.

The hope is that specializing in this area could be a differentiator for the firm in the market when compared to larger legal shops.

The partnership was formed “out of a shared desire to help families find a logical path to resolution despite difficult life circumstances,” according to its founders.

The firm is operating with three attorneys today and some support staff. But the duo said they’ll be looking at growth opportunities — particularly for women — though there is no specific size they’re shooting to reach at this time.

“In an industry that has long been male dominated, we feel a great responsibility to raise up younger female attorneys in the area of family law,” said Houston. “This new firm provides an opportunity to pass along everything we’ve learned while building a lasting legacy.”
