Kenya: Man in Courtroom for Stabbing Spouse Throughout Combat Over Baby Custody

A 27-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his ex-wife twice in a row for custody of her three-year-old child after the split was charged with causing her serious bodily harm.

Boniface Kongo is accused of stabbing Faith Shitangale in the neck and left ear on January 18 at her employer’s home in Kilimani, Nairobi.

Congo had traveled from Naivasha, where he works, and had visited his ex-wife at her employer’s house to see his child.

But she told him that she had brought the child to her sister’s in Nakuru because her employer would not allow her to bring the child.

He then traveled to Nakuru to see the child after speaking to her, but upon arrival he was told that the child was in Kakamenga, his wife’s rural home.

He later returned to Nairobi to find that he was being led around in a circle and a dispute broke out in which he allegedly attacked the applicant with a kitchen knife.

Congo denied the charges before Chief Justice Esther Bhoke of the Kibera Courts and was released on a loan of Sh200,000 and an alternative bail of Sh60,000.

The case is mentioned on February 8th.
