Kids Taken From Atmore Fuel Station Discovered Secure In Mississippi; Man To Face Youngster Custody Prices : NorthEscambia.com

Two children who were picked up from an Atmore gas station Thursday morning were found safe and sound in Mississippi and the father of one of the children is now being charged in connection with the incident.

At around 9:40 a.m., the Atmore Police Department responded to a report by a man who abducted two children, ages 3 and 16, from a gas station on Jacks Springs Road off I-65.

The children’s mother told police that she had traveled from Texas Thursday morning to move to Alabama. She said the children were taken away by their estranged husband.

Brooks, the Atmore police chief, said the woman said she drove to the gas station to refuel her truck and the kids went to the store. She said that minutes later the children left the store and got into the man’s Toyota Camry.

The woman told police that her husband is the 3-year-old’s father. She said her husband was not the teenager’s father and had no parental rights over the child.

“The woman also said she didn’t feel the children were in danger but wanted the children to be back in her care,” said Brooks.

The father, identified as 58-year-old Bruice Jyrome Jonson of San Antonio, Texas, was later arrested in Gulfport, Mississippi. He will face custody fees upon extradition to Alabama.
