Killeen PD Officer in custody for injuring a 5-year outdated little one

A Killeen police officer is on remand for injuring a 5-year-old child during an off-duty domestic disorder.

This is the second Killeen Police Officer to be charged with a crime this month.

Laura Smith, 29, was charged with the crime of injuring a child under the age of 17 on Friday, July 30th.

According to the KPD, police were informed of a domestic incident involving Smith on Wednesday, July 28, and investigations revealed that a 5-year-old child was carelessly injured in the incident.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division, Special Victims Unit, presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney; Smith was charged with $ 50,000 bail by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.

“We keep the Killeen Police Department officials to the highest standards, both on and off duty, and this incident is being fully investigated to ensure accountability,” said Chief Kimble. “The criminal investigation will be conducted in accordance with Texas law, coordinating with the district attorney. The police have launched an internal affairs investigation to follow the procedure set out in the Public Service Regulations. “

According to the police, Smith has been with the KPD since September 2018; She will be on administrative paid leave, in accordance with local government regulations, which outlines due process for allegations of misconduct while a home affairs investigation is completed.
