Lady (29) remanded in custody charged with murdering child son

A boy’s mother is on remand for murder.

Raluca Ioana Tagani, 29, appeared before a Belfast Magistrates’ Court judge Friday morning.

She is accused of murdering her son Liam O’Keefe in a house in the Ardoyne district of north Belfast on Tuesday evening.

Originally from Romania, Tagani is also charged with the attempted murder of another young child in the same knife stab on the property in Brompton Park.

The child is in critical condition in the hospital.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed to the court, appeared via video link from a detention cell for a brief hearing before Assistant District Judge Liam McStay.

She spoke only briefly to confirm that she understood the allegations she was facing.

A Romanian interpreter translated the court proceedings.

A detective sergeant with the Northern Ireland Police Service told the court that he could link the defendant to the charges.

A Tagani attorney said he had no questions for the officer regarding the liaison.

The attorney also said he would not seek bail on his client.

Tagani was arrested and reappeared on August 27th. – PA
