Lady Shot to Demise in New Haven, Boyfriend in Custody – NBC Connecticut
A 28-year-old woman was shot dead in New Haven Monday morning and police have taken her boyfriend into custody.
Police said the shooting occurred around 9:15 a.m. in the Clifton Street and Lenox Street area.
Police found Alessia Mesquita from New Haven on the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident began as a domestic dispute in a vehicle on Clifton Street, police said. The argument concerned Mesquita and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Rashod Newton.
Mequita got out of the vehicle and was shot, police said.
The couple’s 1-year-old child was in the car at the time of the shooting, police said.
Officers located Newton and the 1-year-old child on Eastern Street a short time later.
Newton has been arrested and held on a West Haven arrest warrant, police said.
The child was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution to be examined.
