Lady Shot to Demise in New Haven, Boyfriend in Custody – NBC Connecticut

A 28-year-old woman was shot dead in New Haven Monday morning and police have taken her boyfriend into custody.

Police said the shooting occurred around 9:15 a.m. in the Clifton Street and Lenox Street area.

Police found Alessia Mesquita from New Haven on the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident began as a domestic dispute in a vehicle on Clifton Street, police said. The argument concerned Mesquita and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Rashod Newton.

Mequita got out of the vehicle and was shot, police said.

The couple’s 1-year-old child was in the car at the time of the shooting, police said.

Officers located Newton and the 1-year-old child on Eastern Street a short time later.

Newton has been arrested and held on a West Haven arrest warrant, police said.

The child was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution to be examined.

Investigators go door to door asking anyone with information or surveillance cameras to contact New Haven Police at (203) 946-6304.
