Police, responding to an emergency call about gunfire late Friday afternoon in a neighborhood in northeast Gainesville, found a man who shot a woman and a baby, WCJB-TV reported.
Officers said a mother and toddler found in the courtyard of a house on Northeast 17th Drive sustained life-threatening injuries and died on the scene. The man they believe started shooting shortly before 5 p.m. has been taken into custody.
“The person who recorded who caused the violence, who shot these two people, is in police custody,” information officer Graham Glover told WCJB. “So our neighbors can go to bed tonight and know that this person is being interviewed with GPD and is not on the street.”
The victims were not named and the police did not disclose the relationship between them and the shooter or the reasons for the shootings.
