Man and lady stay in custody following little one abduction in Bristol

A man and a woman are currently in police custody on suspicion of child abduction after an eight-year-old girl was kept from their Bedminster home overnight.

The couple were arrested just before 9 a.m. in Broadmead, Bristol, this morning after a member of the public called.

The child is safe and well in the care of specialist police officers who work closely with other authorities to provide support for them and their families.

Detective Superintendent Lisa Simpson said, “Members of the community and the media who shared our appeal this morning have undoubtedly played a huge role in helping us find this little girl so quickly. I want to thank you on behalf of the investigation team and family.

“This is an incredibly unusual incident which has understandably caused significant problems and we are treating it with the seriousness and sensitivity you would expect.” The circumstances are now part of an ongoing investigation but I want to assure people that we have no evidence to suggest a major child safety issue in South Bristol.

“I would encourage people to ponder this young girl’s well-being rather than speculate about the circumstances on social media. Such speculation can also have the potential to affect our live investigation.”

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call 101, quoting 5220282127
