Man in custody after allegedly breaking into ex-girlfriend’s condominium, attacking two with a knife

SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in custody after breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and attempting to stab her in an attack on her and another woman court documents say.

The suspect identified as 28-year-old Aaron Sealy.

Sealy broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment after a “heated” text conversation about child custody. Sealy arrived at the apartment and demanded to see his child when court documents state he used a “large torque wrench to break the glass” of a sliding door and entered the apartment.

As Sealy entered, the ex-girlfriend ran to the bedroom on the other side of the apartment where her child was and locked the door.

However, Sealy “broke (the ex-girlfriend’s) bedroom door in half” to get in and came after the ex-girlfriend, carrying a large butcher knife, “trying to stab her.”

She suffered wounds to her thumb and a poke mark to her abdomen where the knife was “nearly plunged into her,” according to court documents.

As she screamed that Sealy was trying to stab her, another woman there exited the bathroom, surprising Sealy and tackled him onto the bed.

At this point the ex-girlfriend ran out of the apartment with the child as the second woman held down Sealy so “they could escape.”

In the second woman’s fight with Sealy, she suffered two lacerations to her hands caused by the knife.

Sealy broke free and went after his ex-girlfriend and child but couldn’t find them.

Sealy found their car, parked across the street and he slashed three tires, broke out one fog light, and broke out the rear window and the driver side rear window court documents say.

A short time later, the police arrived and took Sealy into custody.

Both women expressed that if the second woman had not been surprised Sealy by being there, he would have killed his ex-girlfriend.

The arrest report noted that “Sealy has severe medical conditions which are terminal,” and how he mentioned “his violence is
escalating.” With his child taken away by his ex-girlfriend he felt he has, “nothing left to lose.”

The child, who is 6, witnessed all the events.

Sealy could face charges of two counts of aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child, two counts of criminal mischief, and aggravated burglary.
