Man in custody after allegedly breaking into Palmdale condo taking pictures lady, kidnapping her little one

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) — A man was taken into custody after authorities say he broke into a Palmdale apartment, shot a woman in the face and kidnapped her child.

The incident happened around 10:30 pm Sunday near 11th Street East and Avenue R, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities say the man, who has not been identified, was holding the child hostage at gunpoint when they responded. Deputies were able to talk the man into releasing the child, described as being between 10 and 12 years old.

The man was eventually taken into custody and the child was not physically hurt.

The woman was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Authorities initially said the man did not know the victims, but residents of the apartment complex told Eyewitness News they’ve seen the suspect several times and he appeared to be an ex-boyfriend.

Before the shooting, neighbors said they were screaming at the man not to pull the trigger and let the woman go, but he shot her anyway.

“Once he shot her, he dragged her out the house and that’s how she got downstairs,” said one resident who only identified herself as Destiny. “Once she got downstairs, she was able to get away from him.”
