Man in custody after hours-long standoff in Lincolnville

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office say a man is in custody after a nearly 13-hour standoff in Lincolnville.

Deputies first responded to a home in the area of Pickens Street near Jackson Street around 6:30 pm Tuesday for a welfare check, sheriff’s office spokesman Andrew Knapp said. Knapp said the man called law enforcement himself, prompting deputies to respond to check on the man’s wellbeing and to determine whether anyone else was inside the home.

It evolved into a case of a man reported armed and barricaded inside, he said.

Authorities say during the course of the standoff a gunshot was fired by the man but no one was injured.

A child was also inside of the home during the incident, deputies say.

The sheriff’s office says the man was taken into custody around 7:10 am Wednesday morning and the child in the home was safe.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity or whether he will face any criminal charges.
