FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon following a standoff in a neighborhood north of downtown.

Fort Wayne Police were called to the 500 block on Lillian Avenue near Wells Street following a report of a domestic dispute.

The officers who responded were informed by the woman that a man with three children had barricaded himself in the house and may have been armed. The man had an excellent warrant for household batteries.

Negotiators, emergency services and air support units have been sent to the location, police said.

Officers report that after several hours two of the three children were released unharmed. The man refused to cooperate. Shortly before 5:30 p.m., the officers released a chemical agent into the apartment. The third child and the husband then left the house.

The man was then taken into custody. He was not named.

Officials at the scene said Lillian Avenue will remain closed for the time being.

Neighbors in the area were asked to seek refuge until the situation was resolved.
