Man taken into custody after home violence assault, doable kidnapping in Salt Lake Metropolis

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police are investigating a possible domestic violence assault and kidnapping that happened early Saturday morning.

Just after 1:45 am, police say SLC911 was notified about a 23-year-old man that allegedly assaulted and then kidnapped a 22-year-old woman at a club near 140 West Pierpont Avenue.

Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said officers eventually located the suspect’s vehicle at an apartment complex near 180 North West Temple Street.

“Officers set up a containment area around the apartment and began multiple attempts to communicate with the man and woman. After more than an hour of attempting to communicate, the man and woman would not open the door,” read a press release from the SLCPD.

SLCPD SWAT and crisis negotiators were then called out to the scene.

At 6:38 am, police say the man surrendered and was safely taken into custody.

The victim along with a young child also exited the apartment, according to police. The victim was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries; the child was unharmed.

“Based on the information available to officers, the suspect and victim are known to each other through a romantic relationship,” stated the release.

The incident remains under investigation.

Police have not released the name of the suspect or victim in this case.
