One of The Young and the Restless’s worst storylines is over. As viewers saw last week, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) was rescued after being hit by Dr. Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan) had been kidnapped. Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) arrived just in time to help Mariah with the birth. If Mariah is safe and Abby has her baby, anyone can get on with their life. However, it seems that there is more drama on the way in this plot.

Mariah Copeland grows up with baby Dominic in “The Young and the Restless”
When Mariah agreed to replace Abby, she didn’t realize how difficult it would be to give up the child. While in captivity, Mariah had the chance to bond with the unborn baby. As the viewers of The Young and the Restless have witnessed in recent episodes, Mariah’s behavior suggests that she is worrying.
As announced by Soaps.com, this week an emotional Mariah admits to Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) that she is having a hard time letting go of the baby. Mariah’s bond with Baby Chancellor is not going to go away, and fans already know where this plot leads.

From the moment the surrogacy story began, viewers predicted that Mariah could not give up on the baby. As it turned out, they were right. Abby’s ideal plan was for Mariah to give birth and that would be the end. Abby would have her baby while Mariah and Tessa could move into the network phase of their lives.
However, Abby is in for a surprise when Mariah insists on being part of baby Dominic’s life. In Abby’s opinion, Mariah has no right to see Dominic. Abby is the boy’s birth mother, not Mariah. With Abby unwilling to change her decision, Mariah has no choice but to sue for custody.
The custody battle will affect other characters from “The Young and the Restless”
Abby and Mariah’s friendship is ruined with a custody battle. Aside from the two women and the baby, this fight will also affect other characters from The Young and the Restless. First there is Tessa, Mariah’s friend. The two have talked about having kids in the past, but are they ready to have them anytime soon? Tessa would do nothing better than having kids with Mariah, but her singing career could keep her from being active parents.

Another key figure in the plot is Devon, Dominic’s biological father. Devon immediately agreed to help Abby with her plan to have a baby. But after seeing baby Dominic, Devon is reminded of the son he lost with Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan). Although Devon has agreed that Abby and Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) would raise the baby like Mariah, he may have doubts.
Though fans fear it, a custody act will bring The Young and the Restless drama. As everyone takes sides in the custody battle between Abby and Mariah, it becomes tense in and out of court.
