Mom shot, killed in entrance of daughter and daughter’s buddy in Sellersburg; suspect in custody

A mother was shot and killed in front of her child and her child’s friend in Sellersburg, Indiana, Friday night, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene after the call of a shooting in the 11000 block of Forrest Hill Circle, which took place at 7:45 pmThe report they got alleged that Mac Lewis had shot his wife and had fled the residence.When the deputies got there, they found Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bennett Lewis inside the home already dead with multiple gunshot wounds . Upon further investigation, the deputies learned that Lizzie Lewis’ 11-year-old child and her 10-year-old friend were inside the house close to Mac Lewis when he shot Lizzie.The deputies said that there were several bullet holes found throughout several Rooms and areas inside the house. At the same time deputies were at the crime scene, Mac Lewis was found by the Sellersburg Police Department driving on State Road 60. After stopping him, the police arrested him without incident. Mac Lewis has been charged with murder, attempted murder and criminal recklessness with a firearm.Mac Lewis is not the father of Lizzie Lewis’ daughter who witnessed the shooting.After the shooting, Lizzie’s family released the following statement:”The Bennett family has asked “That they be given a moment alone to grieve the loss of Lizzie to this senseless act of violence. They ask that everyone take a moment to recall her as an amazing mother, a devoted sister and a beloved daughter. Lizzie gave her short life to caring and helping others. Her choice of becoming a nurse was just an extension of her desire to make the world a better place for everyone. She will be missed by her two children and all that knew her.”He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 4.This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
