Ohio man accused of trying to kidnap youngster tries to flee custody a second time

An Ohio man accused of attempting to kidnap a 5-year-old girl during an open house tried to escape custody for a second time, police said in a newly released police report.According to court documents, on Monday, Aug. 29, 35 -year-old Reid Duran showed up at the St. Brigid School in Xenia pretending to be a parent. The principal said Duran showed up at the school during an open house and said he was there with his daughter. The principal said he was suspicious of Duran when he walked in and called the police after he learned he was not the father of any child in the school.According to court documents, Duran told Xenia police that he went to the school to “find a small child to obtain sexual favors” and he “prefers children between the ages of 5 to 13 years old.”Duran reportedly told police that while he was at St. Brigid, he saw a “class photo” with a name below it, next to the door of a “kindergarten class,” and he “planned on removing the child from the school” to “perform sexual acts on the child.” Court documents state that Duran’s plan was to give the child “Starburst candy” laced with a “tranquilizer” and then kidnap the child when the child passed out. Xenia police said Duran also admitted to having child pornography on his computer. While in police custody, surveillance video shows Duran attempt to stab an officer with a pen and then try to escape the interview room. He was charged with attempted kidnapping, felonious assault, and felony escape. In a second video released Wednesday, it shows Duran tried to escape a second time while in a holding. He only took two steps before officers jumped on top of him and pushed him back on the bench. He will not be charged with escape for the incident, police said. Duran appeared in court for a bond hearing Wednesday. Prosecutors said they want him kept behind bars without bond.
