One man in custody following reported kidnapping, hours lengthy standoff in Kansas Metropolis |

KANSAS CITY, MO – A police operation ended around 8:45 p.m. Monday with a man in custody. The man is accused of holding a woman against her will. The police say the woman and her child are now safe.

The investigation began around 5:20 p.m. when a concerned family member called 911 to report that the woman needed help. The woman told her family member that a man she knew forced her and her child into a vehicle in Independence, Mo., and drove them to a house near 44th Street and Campbell, Kansas City.

When the police arrived in Kansas City, they found the woman and child outside the home. The woman told the police that the man then allowed her to go, but he refused to come out for hours. Investigators believed he was armed and tried to negotiate with him from outside the house.

“We take all precautions in situations like this. They are calling for a standoff or Operation 100 that brings tactical resources and additional equipment to achieve a peaceful resolution, ”said Sergeant Jake Becchina of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. “As are negotiators who are trained to speak to a person until they are safely out of the house.”
