PASCO, Wash. — A 14-year-old Pasco girl is in custody and facing a felony charge after officers discovered an alleged “hit list” written down in her journal targeting fellow students.
Officials with the Pasco Police Department (PPD) said they were first notified of the situation on March 31 after they received a call from the principal at Delta High School about the potential threats.
Court documents reveal a student at the school “was found to be in possession of a journal where she admitted to school staff to having listed 20 student’s names on a “Hit List.”
Another student reported the findings to the principal who “searched [redacted name] backpack and found a black journal that did contain the “Hit List.”
“Under one name from the “Hit List” she specifically wrote, “Offenses… Hurt my feelings” (she wrote this eight times) and “Method of Murder… Stab 8 times in the chest,” documents said.
Police said Delta’s assistant principal also “interviewed one of the students whose name is in the journal and she said that student told her [redacted name] “talks about killing people a lot” and that that student has seen pictures [redacted name] has drawn and has shown her of dead people being dragged across the ground.”
According to the documents, the student was given an emergency expulsion from Delta High that same day.
Sgt. Rigo Pruneda with the PPD said the students who reported the alleged threats were a key part in turning around what could’ve been a dangerous situation.
“We don’t normally see stuff like this but obviously when it gets reported we take it very seriously,” Sgt. Pruneda said. “We just want kids to know that even if they’re not intending to do what they say on paper, it’s still a very serious threat.”
Sgt. Pruneda said he encourages parents to have an open conversation with their children about safety and security at school.
“If you’re a child at a school and you see a friend or anybody at the school that is raising a security risk or safety risk, please report it to your teacher who then can report it to administrators at the school and get the police involved so we can investigate it,” Sgt. Pruneda said.
The Pasco School District released the following statement:
“The safety of students within the Pasco School District (PSD) is our top priority and something we take very seriously. When Delta High School administrators were alerted to a student making alleged threats against other students, they took immediate action by contacting the Pasco Police Department (PD) and completing a full threat assessment. The families of any impacted students were also notified. The Pasco PD completed their investigation, which was referred to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
While PSD does not disclose disciplinary actions for individual students, the student is not attending school on the Delta campus and there is no credible threat to students at this time.”
