Pomona Girl In Custody After Pursuit, Standoff With Little one In Car – CBS Los Angeles

DIAMOND BAR (CBSLA) – A 30-year-old Pomona woman was taken into custody Tuesday night after an hour-long hiatus stalled at Diamond Bar after a wild and dangerous chase.

A 9-year-old child who was in the car during the entire ordeal first got out of the vehicle after deputies from the Los Angeles District Sheriff’s Department inserted a tear gas canister into the car.

Sheriff’s MPs thought they had enough confirmation that only the suspect was in the car. The windows were tinted and towards the end the suspect blocked the windows with umbrellas and even a laundry basket. An ambulance takes care of the child.

The girl jumped into the arms of a stand-in as the rest of the team climbed into their mother’s car with guns drawn, which gave up shortly afterwards and ended the hour-long stalemate.

According to LASD, the chase began around 3:30 p.m. after the driver was allegedly involved in a collision in front of the LASD Walnut-Diamond Bar Station.

During the persecution, the woman injured several people and slammed into more than five vehicles before stopping in Diamond Bar after her car was blocked.

“Nobody knew the kid was in the car,” said LASD Lt. Todd Knight.

Knight said MPs were unaware the child was in the back seat of the vehicle when they attempted multiple PIT maneuvers or fired beanbag bullets through the windows during the chase.

He said MPs didn’t know until the child got out of the car after the tear gas was used.

Brian Avilos, whose vehicle was struck during the chase, said when he noticed a child was involved it made him both angry and sad.

“Crazy because she’s an adult and should know her responsibilities,” he said.
