BUNCOMBE COUNTY, North Carolina (WLOS) – The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office reports that a student with a gun was taken into custody Wednesday by one of the SRO school officials. School officials say no one was injured.

According to authorities, the SRO has taken the student into custody at TC Roberson High School. The student will be placed in the care of the juvenile justice division with the NC public safety division, officials say.

The sheriff’s office says that “there is currently no other active threat to the school. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Department is currently conducting a full investigation into the incident to determine the full extent of other crimes, officials say. “

“The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office will investigate threats as much as possible and our investigations will continue until we can rule out all possible threat scenarios,” Sheriff Quentin Miller said in a press release. “We are committed to the safety of our schools.”

“I am extremely pleased with the way our SROs and school administrators have handled today’s incident,” said Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin in the press release. “Our close relationships with partner agencies such as the Sheriff’s Office are critical to the safety of our students, employees and locations.”

Officials add that the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and Buncombe County Schools cannot post any identifying information about the student or youth petition because the student is under the age of 18.

Furthermore, no further details about the incident are currently being released on Wednesday.

The Buncombe County Schools shared the following message sent to TC Roberson High School staff and families by Headmaster Nathan Allison:
Good day. This is Nathan Allison. I’m calling about an incident that happened to TC today.
One of our students brought a gun to the school. Nobody was hurt in any way. Our SROs and school administrators have been instrumental in keeping our campus safe today by reacting quickly and following all security procedures.
We take this very seriously and this type of behavior will not be tolerated. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the matter and the student is in custody. As this is an open investigation, we cannot publish any further information.
