Replace: Convicted arsonist again in custody after strolling away from jail in McAlester

Update 1/15: Oklahoma Department of Corrections officials say an inmate who left the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester was found and returned to state custody.

McAlester Police Department officers met Kirby Yates late Thursday night and arrested him after a brief chase.

Yates is serving a five-year sentence for first degree arson and could face additional charges related to his departure.

MCALESTER, Okla. (KFOR) – The Oklahoma Corrections Department is searching for a convicted arsonist who has walked away from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester.

Kirby G. Yates, 52, left the Minimum Security Facility Thursday night, according to a Department of Corrections press release.

Yates, who is serving a five-year sentence for first degree arson, is described as a 6-foot white man who weighs approximately 235 pounds.
