Seguin man arrested for stabbing man over baby custody alternate

A Seguin man was arrested after San Marcos police alleged that he stabbed his child’s mother’s boyfriend on a custody swap.

Jonathan Sonny Luna, 21, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with a lethal weapon – family violence, manipulation of physical evidence and possession of a controlled substance.

According to police, the incident began with an exchange of custody between Luna, his child’s mother, and the stabbing victim, her new boyfriend. The tampering accusation arises from Luna’s admission that he stabbed the victim with a bunch of keys. A ring camera, however, clearly shows a knife as a weapon, which the police claim to have destroyed or hidden in his immediate escape from the crime scene.

On November 4, just after 4 p.m., officers reacted to the 100 block on Linden Lane after reports of a knife stab. The caller reported that the perpetrator left the scene in a vehicle heading for Highway 123.

When more officers arrived, a witness who saw the altercation and followed the perpetrator pulled up and reported the vehicle was now on the Tallow Trail, says SMPD. When the officers gathered on the Tallow Trail, the perpetrator fled through a field in the back of the neighborhood.

Although the students had already departed for that day and there was no imminent danger, an officer was hired to guard a nearby elementary school as there was no school resources officer and there were still people on campus, says SMPD.

Shortly afterwards, the officials on site received reports that the perpetrator was now communicating with his grandmother by telephone. The officers spoke to him on the phone and he eventually came off the field and was taken into custody without incident, says SMPD.

The 20-year-old victim was disabled and was taken to Christ Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos by a family member. The status of its condition is currently unknown, says SMPD.
