Sheriff’s “Meetup Spot” affords protected area to make on-line exchanges, custody swaps | Information

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has set up a designated space in its parking lot for people to meet, exchange online purchases or arrange a custody transfer.

“If you’re looking for a safe place to meet online purchases or a place to exchange custody, the sheriff’s office now has a specific location,” law enforcement announced on social media last week.

The “Meetup Spot” identifies spaces in the Sheriff’s Department parking lot at 242 Parker Road, Moulton. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the room is monitored and recorded 24 hours a day by video surveillance.

As online shopping becomes more frequent in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sheriff’s Office is pleased to dedicate part of its offering to public safety. The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to exercise caution when shopping online to avoid fraud or theft.

Residents can call 256-974-9291 to report suspicious activity or concern.
