Standoff ends peacefully after police rush into house, man taken into custody :: WRAL.com

– An hour-long stalemate in Fuquay-Varina ended peacefully on Saturday after a man was taken into custody.

The stalemate occurred in a house in the Lakestone Village neighborhood in Block 1100 of Old Bramble Road. According to the police, parts of the neighborhood have been evacuated for security reasons.

According to the police, the man barricaded in the house threatened to commit suicide.

Police said they received a report that the person in the house fired a shot before the police arrived, causing property damage.

According to police, the man accidentally damaged a gas pipe in the house, possibly from a gunshot. The Fuquay-Varina fire department ventilated the house.

The man was arrested after an exchange of fire and police stormed into the house.

The situation surprised neighbor Joellyn Crooks.

“[We] tried to get home from the pool and we couldn’t go back to our house, “said Crooks.

A man who only wanted to be identified as Christian said he came to a heavy police presence after coming home from running errands.

He said he was worried about his wife and three month old child who were at home when the situation escalated.

“There was some chatter about the risks of things,” said Christian. “She was ready to go with a bag.”

Police said the stalemate ended with a “peaceful resolution” around 7:25 pm.

“I’m just grateful that it didn’t turn out any other way,” said Christian.

Neighbors told WRAL News that the man in custody had a wife and a seven-year-old son. You weren’t in the house at the time.

The police attribute the use of a robot to communicate with the man in the house.

According to the police, charges are pending in the stalemate.
