Suspect in custody after taking automotive with youngster, canine inside, officers say

Officials say a suspect is in custody related to the kidnapping of a 2-year-old who triggered an Amber Alert on Wednesday night. In a Facebook post, Cayce Department of Public Safety officials said Skyheem Malik Phillips was the person of interest in Cayce, Lexington County, car theft and child abduction. Officials announced at 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday that the little girl was safe. According to the Cayce Department of Public Safety, the kidnapping took place at 8:50 p.m. at the Quality Inn on 3020 Charleston Highway in Cayce. Authorities said the child and a dog were in a car outside the motel when a man jumped into the vehicle and drove away. An Amber Alert was issued shortly thereafter. Anyone with information about Phillips or the alleged crime is asked to call the Cayce Department of Public Safety at 803-794-0456 or call 1-888-CRIME-SC.
