Suspect in custody after taking automotive with youngster, canine inside, officers say

Officials say a suspect is in custody related to the kidnapping of a 2-year-old who triggered an Amber Alert on Wednesday night. In a Facebook post, Cayce Department of Public Safety officials said Skyheem Malik Phillips was the person of interest in Cayce, Lexington County, car theft and child abduction. Officials announced at 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday that the little girl was safe. According to the Cayce Department of Public Safety, the kidnapping took place at 8:50 p.m. at the Quality Inn on 3020 Charleston Highway in Cayce. Authorities said the child and a dog were in a car outside the motel when a man jumped into the vehicle and drove away. An Amber Alert was issued shortly thereafter.
