Suspect in custody, youngster protected after standoff, hostage state of affairs in Norman, police say – FOX23 Information

NORMAN, Oklahoma – A child is safe and a suspect is in police custody after a stalemate and hostage situation early Wednesday morning in Norman, police said.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in a stalemate with the suspect near 12th Avenue NE and Kingston Road. According to police, the suspect was arrested.

The child is the suspect’s daughter, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol. At one point, the suspect told the police that he had put the knife to the child’s throat.

Oklahoma City police announced shortly before 7:30 a.m. that the child was safe in the care of the police. The police soon confirmed that the suspect had also been arrested.

According to Oklahoma City Police, the chase began in southern Oklahoma City near Southwest 44th Street and Santa Fe. The officers said the vehicle matched the description of the vehicle belonging to a person they knew who had an arrest warrant. Police said it is currently unclear whether the suspect in the stalemate is the one wanted on the warrants.

The suspicious vehicle had a flat tire and he then got out with the child. Then the stalemate began.

Several law enforcement agencies are on site, including the Oklahoma City and Norman Police and the OHP.
