Teen in custody after Evart stabbing of younger little one | Information

REED CITY – A young Evart child suffered life-threatening injuries Monday after an 18-year-old male suspect allegedly stabbed him multiple times.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported at 4:14 p.m. on April 19 that Meceola Central Dispatch had received an emergency call regarding a knife stab on the 400 block of Pine Street in Evart. According to the police, the sheriff’s office deputies reacted immediately, along with the Osceola County Ambulance Service.

According to the police, the MPs found a young child who had suffered several life-threatening stab wounds. Police said the youth had been taken to Grand Rapids to undergo an operation. An 18-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken into custody following an investigation by the sheriff’s office, assisted by Michigan State Police.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday this was an isolated incident and posed no threat to the general public. Also on Tuesday, Osceola County Prosecutor Tony Badovinac said he was aware of the case but did not see the report because the sheriff’s office did not forward it to his office.

Badovinac also said he did not expect to receive the file until later Tuesday and that indictments in the 77th district court would likely not take place until Wednesday at the earliest.

According to the indictment, all charges against the 18-year-old are merely accusations and not proof of guilt. The teenager is considered innocent unless and until found guilty in a court of law. The prosecutor’s office has the burden of proving the guilt beyond any doubt. Likewise, the suspect’s name will not be released until an indictment is brought.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was supported by the Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Crime Lab, Evart Police Department, Osceola County EMS, Osceola County Animal Control, Reed City Police Department, and the Evart Fire Department.
