Theft, wrong-way crash in Kansas Metropolis, Kan. ends with four in custody

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Four people are in custody after a robbery and an accident on Wednesday afternoon with the participation of the police.

Kansas City, Kansas Police Department officials responded to a major robbery near S. 55th and Miami Ave. shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the Turner district.

The victim said several young men approached her as she stood next to her vehicle. The suspects physically assaulted the victim before taking her purse and leaving the scene in her vehicle, according to police.

The suspicious vehicle was located a short time later by the police. During the police chase, the suspect driver entered I-70 west in the lane east from 7th Street Trafficway.

An officer who was helping the chase and driving east on I-70 encountered the vehicle heading straight at him and oncoming traffic in the wrong direction. Then he rammed his police car into the suspect’s vehicle near the 10th Street flyover.

The driver of the suspicious vehicle and three passengers were taken into custody.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident and no injuries were reported.

The incident is being investigated further.
