EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Three children were found dead in a house in East Los Angeles on Monday, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, MPs responded around 12:45 p.m. to a house on the 600 block of Ferris Avenue in the Belvedere Gardens area (CBSLA).

When the MPs arrived, they found three children – two boys and a girl – under three years of age unresponsive at the scene. You have been pronounced dead.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the children’s names or manner of death, although the department called it “suspicious”.

LASD Homicide Bureau Lt. Charles Calderaro said a 28-year-old woman believed to be the mother of the children was a person of interest in the case and had been taken into custody. There was no immediate information about the children’s father, who a family member said also spoke to the police.

Authorities said there was no history of calls at home.

Supervisor Hilda Solis, who belongs to the East LA district, said in a statement that she was “devastated” when she heard of the deaths.

“It’s a terrifying situation and my office is working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Children and Family Services to launch a full investigation into the brutal murder of these three innocent children,” the statement said. “My office also uses the district’s resources to advise and support the family and local residents.

“The support services will also be extended to the firefighters and first aiders who were the first to be on site and who witnessed this travesty,” the statement said. “While I wish this had never happened, we must do everything we can to ensure that no other child suffers such a tragedy.”
